Council Tool Celebrates 125 Years and Keeps Network Strong

RALEIGH (Oct 25, 2011) - The next Manufacturing Makes It Real Network event will be held at Council Tool on Wednesday, November 16 at 345 Pecan Lane, Lake Waccamaw, NC 28450. Council Tool has been a proud North Carolina manufacturer since 1886 and celebrates their 125th birthday this year.

The event is scheduled for 1:30 PM-4:30 PM and is free and open to the public. All manufacturers are encouraged to share their stories and bring a product to display. Anyone who is interested can register online.

The Industrial Extension Service at North Carolina State University coordinates Manufacturing Makes It Real Network events in order to provide a venue for manufacturers and their supporters to benchmark, network and potentially build local supply chains.

What initially appealed to John Council, president of Council Tool, about the network is that "North Carolina and the United States have lost so many factory jobs in recent years and anything to promote local manufacturing is a good thing." He and some colleagues had supported the Manufacturing Makes It Real tour stop last year in Leland. The Manufacturing Makes It Real tour was a statewide event the week of September 27 - October 1, 2010.

The Network grew out of the demand from manufacturers to tell their stories to an enthusiastic audience - about the wide variety of products they make and the jobs they create -- as experienced during last year's tour.

According to their website, Council Tool has been a supplier of tools for fire fighters and law enforcement since 1886. They offer "the country's premier line of heavy-duty, American-made tools for forestry applications and for fighting wildfires."

With the timeless production process that Council Tool still uses to this day, the question arises as to how the company keeps things fresh and cutting edge. John Council explains, "While many of the products we produce perform the same functions as they did 50 or 100 years ago, the processes and equipment and materials used continue to evolve." John is looking forward to demonstrating those processes and the 21st century robotics addition. Sufficient time will be allotted for manufacturers to network and exchange ideas and stories.

The Manufacturing Makes It Real Network is a project of the Industrial Extension Service at North Carolina State University for the purpose of promoting Made in North Carolina products. IES has worked since 1955 to advance manufacturing in North Carolina. Since 2006, IES provided more than $1 billion of value to the state's manufacturers, and created or retained more than 5,000 jobs.
