RALEIGH - The Manufacturing Makes It Real Network's final stop of 2011 will be hosted by DRS Technologies on Tuesday, December 13 at 1060 Consolidated Road, Elizabeth City, NC 27909. Positioned on the Albemarle Sound of the Inner Banks region, this DRS site specializes in aircraft engineering, manufacturing, repair, and aviation product training.
The event runs from 1:30 PM-4:30 PM. All manufacturers are encouraged to attend, share their stories and bring a product to display. This event is free and open to the public. Anyone who is interested in attending can register online.
As one of the fastest growing defense technology companies worldwide, DRS Technologies is the award winning, top supplier of integrated products, services, and support to military forces, intelligence agencies and prime contractors across the globe.
DRS' Elizabeth City location consists of two facilities that specialize in aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul. The aircraft heavy maintenance site is over 220,000 square feet in size and performs work on large aircraft such as the C-130. "DRS Elizabeth City provides inspection, re-manufacturing, and modification of aircraft to ensure fleet sustainment and modernization. Our objective is to deliver a quality product to the end user so they can focus their attention on aircraft operations with confidence. Our business is to help their business." says Gary Watkins Deputy Site Manager & Sr. Program Manager. "We are proud of all the hard work that is accomplished down here by the men and women on the floor 'making it real' everyday. We have a strong, competent, and experienced workforce of individuals committed to the four pillars of our program... Safety, Quality, Schedule and Cost. We welcome all to come see our state of the art facility and state of the art product." This event will feature a tour of the facility providing the attendees a chance to witness their impressive procedures.
The Industrial Extension Service at North Carolina State University coordinates Manufacturing Makes It Real Network events in order to provide a venue for manufacturers and their supporters to benchmark, network and potentially build local supply chains. "Communication is the key to keeping moving parts from rusting, in any business or industry," says Watkins. "The MMIR Network keeps moving parts well oiled by keeping the communication going within the manufacturing industry while showcasing the latest and greatest available local vendor support and availability. DRS' intent is to present the great work being accomplished here in Elizabeth City, as well as become one of the many who will have the opportunity to share and celebrate in the manufacturing activity occurring within our State and local community."
The Network grew out of the demand from manufacturers to tell their stories to an enthusiastic audience about the wide variety of products they make and the jobs they create -- as experienced during the statewide Manufacturing Makes It Real tour, hosted by IES during the week of September 27 - October 1, 2010.
The Manufacturing Makes It Real Network is a project of the Industrial Extension Service at North Carolina State University for the purpose of promoting Made in North Carolina products. IES has worked since 1955 to advance manufacturing in North Carolina. Since 2006, IES provided more than $1 billion of value to the state's manufacturers, and created or retained more than 5,000 jobs.
