RALEIGH (July 18, 2011) - TE Connectivity will host the next Manufacturing Makes It Real Network event sponsored by NC State University's Industrial Extension Service (IES) on August 24 from 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. at 8010 Piedmont Triad Pkwy, Greensboro (PTP). The 4th of seven events scheduled this year, TE, a global supplier of connectors and other electronic components used in transportation, communication, and defense, welcomes the notion of opening their doors to fellow manufacturers.
"The U.S. has the world's largest manufacturing economy and its most productive workers. Events like this one help to highlight the critical role played by manufacturers in driving innovation and creating new high-wage jobs," said National Institute of Standards and Technology Director Patrick Gallagher, who will deliver remarks as part of the program. "As we work to support industry and enhance competitiveness, we're excited to be participating and look forward to strengthening our own connections with manufacturers at the event."
The goal of network events is not only to expand the understanding of the profound impact manufacturing has on the state's economy but also to grow and strengthen the connections shared between businesses and manufacturers alike. At the Daetwyler event on June 28, about 100 manufacturers and their friends traded business cards, shared stories and some even discussed how they are now doing business as a direct result of connections made at previous network events.
All local manufacturers are encouraged to come share their story with a product to display. The event is public with free admission so anyone interested in attending can register online.
The event is being hosted by one of TE's seven Triad area facilities. The PTP plant produces products for the industrial, appliance, and data communication industries and employs over 700 people. After a tour of the plant, ample time will be allotted for manufacturers and their supporters to meet and form connections. These highly beneficial connections are what strengthen the network and often lead to forming local supply chains.
The Manufacturing Makes It Real Network grew out of the demand from manufacturers to tell their stories to an enthusiastic audience - about the wide variety of products they make and the jobs they create - as experienced during the statewide Manufacturing Makes It Real tour, hosted by IES during the week of September 27 - October 1, 2010.
The network was designed to continue that trend by promoting a positive image of manufacturing, connecting manufacturers and those who support them and providing access to university resources to help build a stronger, more competitive base of industry in the state. The network is supported by manufacturers who join as members and receive promotional benefits and easy access to IES expertise.
With over 50 years of experience, TE Connectivity designs and manufactures more than 500,000 products ranging from connectors to cables to relays and more. David Clark of the PTP facility stated, "The Manufacturing Makes It Real Network fills a need we have to learn more about the other manufacturers in our area, the products they make, and the methods that we can share for improving the manufacturing environment in NC."
At the event, TE also plans to showcase their lean initiatives that not only produce gains in efficiencies, but also address the safety of the workforce. James Wallace, continuous improvement specialist for TE said, "It's really about taking care of our people."
The Manufacturing Makes It Real Network is a project of the Industrial Extension Service at North Carolina State University for the purpose of promoting Made in North Carolina products. IES has worked since 1955 to advance manufacturing in North Carolina. Since 2006, IES provided more than $1 billion of value to the state's manufacturers, and created or retained more than 5,000 jobs.
