RALEIGH (June 8, 2011) - More than 80 fans of manufacturing already have signed up for the Manufacturing Makes It Real Network's third stop on June 28 at the Max Daetwyler plant in Huntersville. Many attended the inaugural event at Flextronics in Morrisville in April or the second event at Fleet Readiness Center East in Cherry Point on June 7.
The June 28 event is scheduled for 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at 13420 Reese Blvd. West, Huntersville. Tours of the facility will be conducted and ample time for networking is built into the agenda. Events are free and open to the public, and all local manufacturers will be encouraged to tell their story and bring a product to display. Anyone interested in attending is asked to register online.
The Industrial Extension Service at North Carolina State University coordinates Manufacturing Makes It Real Network events in order to provide a venue for manufacturers and their supporters to benchmark, network and potentially build local supply chains.
Daetwyler believes in being involved in the community and making a difference. "We have been part of Apprenticeship 2000 since its inception, where we invest in high school students helping them learn and develop manufacturing skills," said Bill Howard, Marketing /Communications Manager. "We participated in last year's original Manufacturing Makes It Real tour and presented some of the parts we manufacture in Huntersville."
"We feel strongly that manufacturing jobs are the backbone of any area's economy and being involved in our community through the Network affords us the opportunity to meet real prospective customers: people who make products, who could use our products and services locally, and companies we can form win-win relationships with."
The Network grew out of the demand from manufacturers to tell their stories to an enthusiastic audience - about the wide variety of products they make and the jobs they create -- as experienced during the statewide Manufacturing Makes It Real tour, hosted by IES during the week of September 27 - October 1, 2010.
The Network was designed to continue that trend by promoting a positive image of manufacturing, connecting manufacturers and those who support them and providing access to University resources to help build a stronger, more competitive base of industry in the state. The Network is supported by manufacturers who join as members and receive promotional benefits and easy access to IES expertise.
The company has extended invitations to the June 28th event to students in the program, with the hopes of demonstrating the importance of readying the workforce for the much needed skills of the sector.
Max Daetwyler, an associate member of the Network, will receive exposure to extensive databases of manufacturers and potential customers via the IES website and other social networking venues. They also receive recognition as a supporter of the Network and access to services such as ProBE, Promoting Business Excellence, an assessment which benchmarks a company against their peers, providing information on areas of improvement and opportunity for growth.
Max Daetwyler Corporation is a diverse organization encompassing various groups, including products for the printing industry, manufacturer of solar panel racking systems, contract prototyping, custom machine design and fabrication and precision abrasive waterjet cutting services and systems.
"We are proud to showcase our manufacturing mix at Daetwyler," said Ralph Daetwyler, president and NC State University graduate. "Our strength in manufacturing comes from the need to satisfy our customers both nationally and globally in the printing industry with machinery and consumables. This manufacturing strength is what led us to diversify into completely different industries and is demonstrated by our facilities in Huntersville. This diversity is what got Daetwyler through these tough years and is the main driver for our success."
The Manufacturing Makes It Real Network is a project of the Industrial Extension Service at North Carolina State University for the purpose of promoting Made in North Carolina products. IES has worked since 1955 to advance manufacturing in North Carolina. Since 2006, IES provided more than $1 billion of value to the state's manufacturers, and created or retained more than 5,000 jobs.
